A Bit of History #1

Steam Locomotive at Warminster station

This picture (Right) was taken by my Great Grandad at my home town station of Warminster on June 24th 1967 from

West country class No.34089 '602 Squadron'

I was able to identify the loco after a few searches on the Internet, and low and behold, there it was, West Country Class 4-6-2 No.34089 ’602 Squadron’.

The locomotive was on an embankment which still there to this day, dispite no track there anymore!

’602 Squadron’ was part of a BR batch of these locos built at Easleigh, this one was built in December 1948. It was rebuilt in November 1960 and finally withdrawn from service July 1967, just one month after this photo was taken, as you can see the name plates have already been removed!  The video Below is of the picture above and a picture of the same site today!
