A Bit of History #3
Sunset over the K&A Canal, the pub is just to the left.
Last night I went to a pub for a meal. (Very boring I know, but bear with me!)
It was situated right next to the Kennet and Avon Canal. (Very nice!)
The Village is called Seend and is near Trowbridge in Wiltshire. (Getting to the interesting part now!)
After our meal, we went for a walk along the canal, (As you do) and there was a bridge over the Canal just past the Pub.
Next to it was an information board, showing that there was at one time an Iron Works just the other side of the Bridge from the Pub.
And much to my surprise it used to be served by a railway!
This short stretch of line was known as a tramway.
It used to swerve off from Seend Station, part of the then Devizes Branch line (Now sadly closed).
It curved around over the road and Canal right next to the Bridge mentioned earlier.
It carried on through the Iron Works to a Quarry (Also gone along with the Iron Works).
Remnants can still be seen of the Tramway, although now privately owned and not accessible!

Here can be seen the Tramway Track bed, this is looking towards Seend Station, the Bridge is behind me.
