A visit to Bristol Harbour and the SS Great Britain
I visited the fabulous Steam ship, the SS Great Britain today!
Designed by the one and only Isambard Kingdom Brunel, she was launched in 1843.
She now resides in the original dock she was built in!
She was abandoned in the Falklands in 1937, and finally rescued in 1970 and brought back to Bristol!
It was great to see her in all her glory, as when I last visited she was still not completely restored, things like the 1000-Horsepower steam engine were not complete.
As-well as visiting the SS Great Britain, I also visited the Bristol Harbour Railway, the only passenger carrying Harbour Railway left in Britain.
The locomotive operating was Peckett 0-6-0ST Henbury built in 1937 in Bristol.
