The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway is a Standard Gauge Heritage Steam line running from Haverthwaite to Lakeside at Lake Windermere in the Lake District.

Route

The route totals up a 6 mile round trip.

Haverthwaite

Haverthwaite is the Southern Terminus of the line. This is the Railways Headquarters. Here are the Railways Engine Shed & Works which are open to the Public… There is also a Picnic Area, Restaurant, Booking Office, Gift Shop, Pay & Display Car Park (£1,50) and Public Transport Links!

Newby Bridge Halt

This little Halt is situated near the River Leven. This a great place to alight and go for a walk by the River. The Bridge is just a short walk along the Lane from the Station.

Lakeside (Windermere)

This is the Northern Terminus of the line. It is located at the Southern foot of Lake Windermere.

Here you can alight from the Train and board a boat and take a cruise on the Lake. The Last part of the journey to Lakeside runs mainly along the River Leven and Windermere.

Rolling Stock

The Railway has a wealth of Locos and Rolling Stock. Trains are normally Steam hauled, the Trains consisting of 4 or 5 Coaches. The Railway is famous for it’s two Fairburn Tank Engines.

Other Attractions nearby include Lakeland Motor Museum, which is located between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge and Windermere steam Boat Museum to name but a few…!
