56XX 0-6-2T No.5637
No.5637 is a member of class of locomotive that used total over 200. 5637 was built in 1925 at the GWR Swindon Works. She entered traffic in Cardiff, but was transferred to Barry shed to work local trains six weeks later.
She was withdrawn from service in 1964 and went to Barry Scrapyard.
August 1974 saw the loco rescued, she was the 61st loco to be saved from Barry. She was sold to the Birmingham Railway Museum at Tysley, however in 1981 it was sold again, this time to the Thamesdown Borough Council, who leased it to the Swindon & Cricklade Railway, then finally bought again by a group of S&CR volunteers.
In 1998 after 18 years of Restoration work, 5637 entered service. All the restoration work was carried out by the 5637 locomotive group.
She was moved to the ESR for running in, and has stayed ever since and is now the ESRs primary steam locomotive.
She has recently under gone a Ten yearly overhaul, and was returned to steam in June 2010.
