No.3 Tinkerbell at Whitchurch Village Fair
Recreation Railways took No.3 Tinkerbell off to run at Whitchurch Village fair on August bank holiday.
A surprisingly big event, but then, being on the outskirts of Bristol, that would generate some traffic.
It was a long day, as we had to set up, run and take down the same day, because of security issues, not being able to set up the day before and leaving it overnight.
There was some slight issues with gradients, Tinkerbell was running down hill to the station, and it took quite a lot of effort to stop Tink and the coach with the handbrake.
So instead we used steam, put her into reverse and open the regulator, steam acts as a brake because your putting steam into the wrong end of the cylinder thus slowing the Piston and the engine… Simple!
It was a great day, and Tinkerbell worked hard all afternoon, hauling passengers up and down the 80 yard line.
The special bit was, the field used for the event is where the old GWR Branch to Frome used to pass through, and we ran pretty much on the original track bed, which makes Tink the first steam engine in 45 years ish… To run along it!
