The Kingswear Castle [Link] is to return home to South Devon on the River Dart for the first time in nearly 50 years!

It comes after the annual meeting of the PSPS [Paddle Steamer Preservation Society]. Dartmouth Steam Railway & Riverboat Company General Manager Andrew Pooley has signed a 15 year deal to keep the 1924 built Steamer on the Dart running the “Round Robin”.

Since her Preservation, Kingswear Castle has operated on the River Medway around the Historic Chatham Dockyard. Following a full inspection and her periodic Winter Refit, it is hoped that she’ll be back at her old, now new home before Christmas.

There has been a lot of excitement at this announcement, I too am very excited, and can’t wait to get the opportunity to go down and have a steam train ride and paddle Steamer cruise up the River Dart!

I don’t think anything is confirmed about when she’ll start running, one would assume it would be start of the season next year!
