Swindon and Cricklade Railways GWR 175 event
2010 sees the 175th anniversary of the Great Western Railway.
Lots of railways are holding events to celebrate the fact.
One in particular that stands out is the Swindon and Cricklade Railway!
This little and not known to everyone railway is putting on one hell of an event, spread over two weekends! A maximum of Six Locomotives will be in steam on the 1 1/2 Mile line, these will include 4 ex GWR locomotives, and one of the S&CRs resident locos!
There will be an opening ceremony by Steve David OBE, Director of the National Railway Museum, this will then be followed by the Inaugural Train hauled by City of Truro along the New Southern extension.
As well as steam hauled trains along the S&CR, there will be shuttles along the new extension, footplate visit opportunity’s, “Driver for a Fiver”, Miniature Railway and lots more!
It promises to be a brilliant event, I shall be going, so if you don’t get the chance, keep a look out here for videos of the event!
