The Royal Duchy-Mainline trip

On the 3rd of April, myself and parents took a trip on the Royal Duchy, from Bath Spa to Penzance, although the

Black 5 no.44871 and Brit No.70013 'Oliver Cromwell' in the yard at Exeter

Journey started from London Paddington.

The train itself was hauled from paddington to Exeter St. Davids by Class 52 No. D1015 Western Champion.

From Exeter St. Davids, the train was hauled by Steam to Penzance.

The Locomotives used were Britannia Class 4-6-2 No.70013 Oliver Cromwell and Ian Riley’s Black 5 No.44871.

No.44871 is fresh out of overhaul, and is still being run in, hence the 5 being limited to 60mph.

There were quite a few points of interest on the journey, passing what is soon to be the Ex Cadbury’s Chocolate factory, Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge, running along Dawlish Sea Wall and crossing Brunel’s Royal Albert Bridge.

The Weather stayed pretty clear, and we all had a wonderful time.
