The Seaton Tramway

Tramcar No.8 at Colyton

No.8 at Colyton

The Seaton Tramway is a 2’ 9” gauge Tramway which opened in 1970 and runs from the Coastal town of Seaton three miles inland to Colyton.

Route

The Route is three miles in length running along the Axe estuary for half the journey and through two Nature reserves.

Seaton Terminus

This is where most people choose to start they’re journey, mainly because there is ample parking here! (The car park is owned by the council, it is pay & display!)

The Attractive Station building is built to resemble an Edwardian design, here you will find the ticket kiosk, where you can purchase your tickets and buy selected merchandise.

New for 2011 at Seaton is the Buffet Tram, it was in use at Seaton until 1995, until it was put into a new job as a staff carrying vehicle. In 2011 it was decided to put it back in it’s yellow livery and make it a Buffet again.

Colyford

From Seaton the Tramway runs round some tight corners past the Riverside Depot, along the estuary until we reach Colyford. This is the half-way point on the line.

Here you can alight and have a picnic, visit one of the tow Pubs or visit the Motor Museum (This is only open on selected days, best to ask your driver if he knows whether the museum is open)!

Colyton Terminus

This is the Tramways Northern Terminus. The Tramway utilizes the old Railway station and buildings. Inside the Station building you’ll find Toilets, gift Shop and the Tramstop restaurant.

At the end of the head-shunt there is a play area for kids, outside seating for nice sunny days etc.

Operating days: Selected dates from January to March, Dec. Daily from April to October.
