The Seaton Tramway
The Seaton Tramway
The Seaton Tramway is a 2’ 9” gauge Tramway which opened in 1970 and runs from the Coastal town of Seaton three
Miles inland to Colyton.
Seaton Terminus has an Edwardian design building. Tickets are purchased from the small octagonal building, you can also buy selected items of merchandise here too.
From Seaton, the line runs around a series of 90 degree bends before running down a long straight to the Riverside Depot.
There is a passing loop and sidings here as well as the Tram shed.
Sadly the Depot is not open to the Public.
From here the Tramway runs along side the River Axe as far as Colyford.
You can alight at Colyford to have a look around the small Motor Museum.
Departing Colyford the Tramway runs over Swan Hill Road.
The last section of line from Colyford to Colyton is mainly through open country and in cutting.
On arrival at Colyton you get a great feeling of nostalgia.
Colyton station was originally… Colyton station, but not for a tramway. It was for the old standard gauge branch line that used to run to where the Riverside depot is now situated.
The building was erected in 1868. It now houses the TramStop Restaurant and a large gift shop, toilets etc.
There are two types of Trams you can ride on, Saloon cars or Double Decker cars.
You’re sure to get a “High” class journey!
